The Sir Isaac Newton (SIN) Exam is a test of high school level physics and is offered by the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Waterloo to encourage the teaching of physics. The test, although challenging, is meant to be refreshing and fun. Political and other topical humour have marked SIN exams for years. As in the past, material will cover basic physics, mainly from the suggested Ontario Secondary School Physics Curriculum which is now aligned more with the rest of Canada. Some schools feel at a disadvantage because of semesterization but remember that the SIN Contest has always stressed basic classical mechanics and common sense.
This is an international exam with participants from across Canada, the United States and around the world. All participants are eligible for a certificate from the University of Waterloo. Prizes or certificates are given to the top performers.
Before submitting your order, visit our Centre for Advanced Science Education website for more information, including answers to frequently asked questions. Registration for the SIN Exam should be completed once per high school. It is important to tally and order the correct number of exams if more than one class in the same high school is participating (one order per school, one exam per student).
NO REFUNDS will be processed. We are no longer able to provide invoices or accept purchase orders. Once the teacher (Exam Administrator) completes online ordering and payment, they will receive an automated email confirmation including the exam registration details. Please retain this email as proof of payment, as this is your official receipt.

Information about the exam, including instructions for administering the exam, login and passwords will be emailed to the Exam Administrator (sender: noreply-scion@uwaterloo.ca) approximately one week prior to the exam.
